TUESDAY HOMILY, 32ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

THEME: We have only done our duty!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

Wis.2:23-3:9; Luke 17:7-10

It doesn’t matter where we die, how we die and when we die. What matters is in what state death meets us – in grace or in sin? Only the souls of the righteous are in God’s hands. And even if it seems they die, they live, because God created us for immortality. The one who dies in Christ therefore, is at peace; having fulfilled his/her duty here on earth. To die in the state of grace, is to overcome the craftiness and cunning of Satan who wills that non should be saved.

Friends, in the gospel passage, Jesus reminds us that when we align to God’s grace, and carefully order our lives towards righteousness, we must not swell up with pride as though we have done something extraordinary. After all, it is our duty to live right and do good, just as God wills. We should rather be humble and modest, realising that we have only done our duty – that which God expects of us. If we must boast then, we should only boast in the Lord, since without his grace, we are incapable of anything good.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace, Amen.
