WEDNESDAY HOMILY – FEAST OF APOSTLE JOHN THE BAPTIST  [YEAR B]

THEME: Walking in the light

BY: Fr. Anthony O. Ezeaputa

Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saint John, Apostle and Evangelist. In the first letter of John, we hear about the importance of walking in the light and following God’s commandments. And in the Gospel of John, we read about Mary Magdalene’s encounter with the risen Christ.

A few years ago, a young boy named Max was struggling in school. He had difficulty reading and was falling behind in his classes. But Max’s teacher, Mrs. Johnson, saw something special in him. She took the time to work with Max one-on-one, encouraging him and helping him to improve his reading skills. With her guidance and support, Max began to flourish. He started to enjoy reading and even began to excel in his classes.

Mrs. Johnson’s example teaches us about the power of walking in the light and following God’s commandments. Just as she saw the potential in Max and helped him to shine, God sees the potential in each of us and calls us to shine His light in the world.

As we reflect on Saint John’s message, let us remember that following Jesus is not just about our individual relationship with God but about how we treat others and bring light to the world around us.

May we be inspired by Mrs. Johnson’s example and strive to be a source of encouragement and support to those around us, just as God is a source of light and love to us.

Let us pray for the grace to walk in the light and follow God’s commandments, just like Saint John. May we be filled with the Holy Spirit and courageously share the love of Christ with others.

May Saint John’s feast day inspire us to live out our faith with love, compassion, and humble service. Amen.
