WHEN TO COVER OR VEIL THE CROSS, IMAGES AND STATUES DURING LENT.
The ancient practice of covering or veiling all images and statues in Church may be observed from the vesper or vigil Mass of fifth Sunday of Lent.
The images veiled or covered stay until after the celebration of the easter vigil Mass while only the cross will be unveiled on Good Friday.
The essence of the covering is to enhance the psychological disposition of the celebrants in focusing & concentrating mainly and entirely on the great redemptive act of Christ which alone brought our salvation according to the synod of Pistoia in 1768.
