Here, the good deeds we have been doing so easily in the past become really difficult to do. You find that you no longer have the strength to pray. And you see yourself falling into sin and running off to confession frequently.
YEAR A: HOMILY FOR 19TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
HOMILY THEME: WHERE DO WE FIND GOD?

HOMILY: Readings: I Kings 19:9a, 11-13a; Romans 9:1-5 and Matthew 14:22-33.
Oftentimes we think we must always find God in big things, in a great voice like a pearl of thunder or in events that are magnanimous. Where do we find God? This is a very important question we need to ponder upon. God, where can we find You? God where do I find You?
In the first reading from the first First book of the kings, Elijah did not find God in the strong wind. He did not find God in the earthquake. Nor did he find God in the fire. Why was God not in the wind, the fire and the earthquake? Sometimes, while aspiring for great things, we work so hard as though all depends on us and yet we find out at the end that God is not there. Sometimes, the little we are able to achieve while putting God first turns out to be the greatest and the best. God, where do we find You?

In the gospel reading from Saint Matthew, God revealed himself in Jesus Christ our Lord who walked upon the sea. The sea in antiquity is seen as a great natural force against man. No wonder storms rage on the sea capable of bringing perdition to the human person. The walking of Jesus on the sea reveals God’s power over every of life’s difficulties and challenges that confront his people. We shall not perish before our challenges and trials in life if we remain still as to finding God in the still small voice as Elijah did.
That voice that invited Saint Peter in the gospel, “COME” is the voice of God. We find God in His holy word which we read and hear proclaimed to us at mass. This word becomes flesh and dwells among us. We find God in the Eucharist which we recieve at communion. Saint Paul though he went through many afflictions such that unceasing sorrows filled his heart, but the saving grace of Christ did not abandon him. While we look out for God, let us not forget that God is with us. He is present in his church. He is present in his word. He is present in the sacraments. He is present in our lives, in our families, in our Joy’s and sorrows, and in our world.
