YEAR A: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 22ND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: FOLLOW THE NEW WAY

BY: Rev. Fr. Jacob Aondover ATSU

HOMILY: READINGS: COLOSSIANS 1:15-20, PSALM 100, LUKE 5:33-39

1)The advent of Christ changed the entire history of humanity. His coming occasioned a radical paradigm shift from irreligion to religious living; from vice, wickedness, sin etc. to virtue, love and righteousness.
2) It is normal that the OLD GIVES WAY TO THE NEW, the Christian doesn’t live in the past, he or she looks to the future and embracing the way of love, allow old things like sin, vice, immorality, and the likes to pass away. That so, new things like love, peace, righteousness and so on would have a place in our lives bringing us joy and effervesence of life.
3) Besides, we cannot be old and new as Christians; there’s no MIDDLE GROUND IN OUR WORSHIP OF GOD. It is either we abandon our old ways of life and follow Jesus’ new way or we remain stuck in our past and lost too.
4) Jesus further tells us that there comes a time when PATCHING IS FOLLY, WHEN THE OLD IS UNNECESSARY and must be done away with. He exhorts us to be docile enough to embrace the new way of life; the way of love, the way of joy and of course, the way of the cross. We may not want to be like the Jews who held tenaciously to their law and wouldn’t grow.
5) Christ the Messiah is with us, we have every reason to be joyful; the messianic times are here so, come what may, we ought not to be gloomy or sad but happy always.
6) We all are servants of Christ who is the source of our joy, the author of our lives, the initiator of the New Way! We must foster his joy the new way he brought.
7) Jesus is our head and we his body. We’re invited thus to live according to his dictates hence enjoy his blessings as the eternally.
8) He, Jesus is the reason we’re reconciled to God. He forgives us the gravest of sins and it is only right we forgive our brethren who wrong us.
9) Ultimately, we are charged to let our old ways give way to the new way brought by Christ because he is the master who’d pass the final judgment on us.
May this weekend be nice as we FEED and EDUCATE another…
