HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER

Intention for the Day: Prayer that we may search for peace and joy than material things that destroy. Amen.

HOMILY: Readings: Acts 6:8-15;
John 6:22-29

We need to ask ourselves what we are really for in life. This question is important because it forms the basis of our search, our attitude and even our love and hatred. If what we look for is mundane and ephemeral, then we would always think that way. But if we look for something deeper and real, then we would definitely be more spiritual and forward looking.

In the gospel of today, the crowds were looking for Jesus, for what. For food to fill their bellies. They think that’s all there is to life. Jesus needed to teach them that there is more to life than food. There is a food that lasts and that is good works and believing in Christ. Stephen a deacon showed that there is more to his life and to the gospel than sharing food. He goes to teach people about Christ which they couldn’t match his wisdom because he was filled with grace and the Holy Spirit.

My dear friends, we need to put things into perspective. Material things are good and needed but sometimes too overated. There is something we need more. It’s God. It’s peaceable living with other persons and joy of living. The fact that we wake up everyday feeling useful and sleep for the good we have done. Following and believing in Jesus satisfies our perennial hunger because he takes all inordinate desires from us and restores us to life of doing good everyday everywhere. That satisfies than money, food etc. May the Lord give us the food that gives satisfaction. Amen.
