HOMILY: (Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary).

Jos.24:14-29; Matt.19:13-15

The average human being is mortally scared of death, whether we like to admit it or not. Yes! Research shows that what we fear most is usually the unknown. And since we have no idea when or how we’ll die, we significantly fear death. Well, isn’t it then ironic that we refuse to prepare? Today, Joshua gives the people of Israel a choice – God or the world? God means life and the world means death. And since a true leader leads by example, Joshua goes on or tell them that he (and his household) has chosen to serve the Lord.

Friends, we may not have any control over when and how we shall die. But we do have a choice with regard to where we shall go. Each time we put ourselves in situations that can result in sin, we choose other gods. Each time we refuse to be truly converted, each time we refuse to let go of bodily sexual pleasures and desires, each time we close an eye to the suffering neighbour, the helpless child; each time we fail to humble ourselves and trust God with child-like simplicity, humility and innocence, we prove that we prefer death to life. The question remains, “whom will you serve?”

May the prayers of our mother Mary help us grow in purity of heart, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend!
