HOMILY THEME: BECOME LIKE A CHILD

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY: (Mk.10:13-16) Saturday of the Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus took advantage of the disciples’ unwelcoming attitude against the children following Jesus. He taught them that the Kingdom of God belongs to the children. Jesus saw something in them which hopefully the disciples also saw. Children are dependent, obedient, and humble. Applied to our relationship with God, we commit ourselves fully to Him. It is a wholehearted acceptance more than naive innocence.

Maybe that is why Jesus taught us to call God as our Father and we are His children. When we embrace that position before God, we submit ourselves to Him and put our lives and destiny in His hands. Such attitude merits us the Kingdom.

Of course, it is a question of whether we like to belong to the Kingdom. Our enthusiasm and faith to belong to the Kingdom will make us take that position of humility before God. Do we want to belong to the Kingdom? Do we want the Kingdom? Then, we will do everything to reach it even becoming like a child.
