YEAR A: HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE 27TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: GENEROUS GOD

HOMILY: (Lk. 11:5-13) Thursday of the Twenty Seventh Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus explains the generosity of the Father who answers all our prayers. Jesus began by citing that God who is always generous does not need persistence compared to us. Next, Jesus reminds us that if we, who are wicked would never give anything harmful to our children, how much more God who is Good Himself.

The problem comes up when what we asked is not what we are given. Worse if nothing was given at all. But we must not forget that Jesus said that the Father will give in response to our prayer but not necessarily what we asked. Remember, God is good. He cannot give something evil. Also, as God He always hive no less than the best. That is why At the end of the Gospel, Jesus said that the Holy Spirit is also given. It means that the Holy Spirit is there to help us see the answer of the Father and discern its goodness.

The attitude in praying should be one of humility. When we approach God to ask, we do so with the best in mind. But in the end, we must be able to say like Mary and her Son said, “Your will be done!” It is an attitude which recognizes that God is generous and will always give what will be best for us specially spiritually.
