HOMILY THEME: THE SPIRIT OF SONSHIP

HOMILY: HEB 12:18-24, MK 6:7-13

Sinai and Sion: on Sinai God was trying to reveal himself to Israel but they were not given to the ways of God. They demanded to know the God that Moses claimed Was The God of their fathers. There was thunder and fire and earthquake and the people were afraid.

This gives us an impression about the title: Ugwu a na-ari atu Egwu. But on Zion Israel has an identity. That’s why Isaiah often mentions “daughter of Zion”. Because they have received the spirit of sons. Zion was a mountain of adoption and liberty instead of a mountain of fear.

Power of Sonship: sonship comes with power and authority (Jn 1:12). Jesus now sends his disciples two by two to do the works he was doing. Today we still have that power. That’s why we can rebuke demons and they come out of the possessed. We preach and pray and people get healed. But we have to stay connected to the power source – Jesus by detachment from worldly honors and possessions.

We received without charge let us administer without charge and the blessings of God will flow to us.

Happy Thursday!
