YEAR A: HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: THE EXPERIENCE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY: (Jn. 3:7-15) Tuesday of the Second Week of Easter

In today’s Gospel Jesus continues His dialogue with Nicodemus. Here we have a respected Jew listening and giving Jesus a chance to enlighten him. Jesus presents to Nicodemus the importance in believing and reflecting on what we experience by seeing, touching, hearing, smelling and feeling.

As human beings, we make conclusions by virtue of what we experience. Once we have a deep grasp of the experience, then, the transition in believing what is not natural and available through human experience may also be believed.

We cannot know everything no matter how hard we try. But we may know enough to have reasons to believe. The Spirit works as a support to our understanding of things. But we have a freedom to agree with the Spirit or not. Hopefully we will agree. If not, a life of disobedience to God’s will is very miserable.

Nicodemus saw something more in Jesus. He was attracted to Jesus. He wanted to know more about Him. He wanted to meet Him, the Lord, the Messiah. It is interesting how Nicodemus was able to recognize Jesus. We can also recognise the risen Lord if we are open to God’s Spirit. Let God reveal Himself to us.
