YEAR A: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF ADVENT. FEAST OF OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE

HOMILY THEME: A PERFECT DISCIPLE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Lk. 1:26-38) Feast of the Our Lady of Guadalupe

In today’s Gospel, the angel Gabriel appeared before Mary to bring the Good News that she will be the Mother of the Son of God. Not heard by the whole world, but her obedience, “Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word.” propelled the God’s economy of salvation.

Now, Mary continues the tradition by herself appearing before men, women and children in order to share the Good News and encourage repentance. We attribute to Mary so many apparitions which brought many to conversion and devotion. Her presence and intercession continue to be seen, heard and felt by the faithful.

In a world now threatened by too much violence, immoralities, crimes, and wars, Mary’s intercession and witnessing becomes relevant. She was not corrupted by the power and prestige of being the Mother of God. She made use of her privilege to make her Son be known and God’s power be recognised. She learned and had not forgotten what God had done for us. She praised God for His goodness and faithfulness. Mary is indeed a perfect disciple.

Our Lady of Guadalupe! Pray for us!
