YEAR A: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF EASTER (2)

Those atheist who do not believe in God; What goes through their mind when they look at nature? How do they think water came about? Who do they think created the sky and the heavens? What science in all its wisdom can create healthy fruits and herbs which heal? What about air? How do they think it came about? The wisdom of man; do they think it just came to be? No supreme being is behind it?

YEAR A: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 2ND WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: JUST BELIEVE AND BE SAVED

BY: Rev. Fr. Jacob Aondover ATSU

HOMILY: READINGS: ACTS 5:17-26, PSALM 34, JOHN 3: 16-21

What better sacrifice would God have offered to make man understand the depth of his (God’s) love and care for him? In the today’s Gospel Jesus says how much God loves us. It is the greatest love of all. He gave us His only Son who will be the cause of damnation or salvation of all. Believing in the Son who is the Light will bring us to the bosom of God. ELECTING TO CHOOSE DARKNESS/SIN WILL BRING US TO ETERNAL DEATH. As far as God is concerned, the choice is clear and should be easy.

Beloved brothers and sisters in the Lord, ours is a generation marked by unbelief, hate, love for evil and darkness (given our sinfulness). Indeed, dear friends, ours is a generation that has failed to welcome and reciprocate God’s greatest gift – LOVE/LIGHT in the person of Christ. Rather, ours is an era that has obstinately chosen and embraced HATE/DARKNESS. And why is evil more attractive? Why is darkness seemingly “peaceful”? Why is sin “comfortable”? To think that we came from God who is holiness, peace and comfort? Why do we tilt more towards satan and vice? Because we live as if life is only for here and eternity does not exist. We lack faith in the resurrection. We are carried away by our human wants and deny our souls, our spirit.

Our choices can either save or condemn us. When Christians choose to live unrighteous LIVES: indulging in anti love/light behaviours like malice, vengeance, hate, murder, injustice, and other ills; when leaders choose the path of corruption, Parents choose to be irresponsible, children recalcitrant, the rich selfish and heinous; the poor wicked and evil; only one destination is possible – CONDEMNATION. Jesus certainly did not die so we can be forgiven and continue to live our life peacefully here on earth. It is much much more than that. He died and resurrected so that we will have eternal life. That is God’s meaning and purpose of His love.

However, if we all like the apostles of Christ believe in Jesus, God’s love personified, the light of the world; and live holy and worthy lifestyles, ETERNITY shall never elude us. For God is God of the living and He wants us to be with Him in eternity. He created us and is sustaining us in this life so that He can be our destiny. May we believe in the resurrected Christ who has the power to set us free from every entanglement’ spiritual or otherwise.

May Christ unlock every gate, door, chain obstructing our progress both as Christians and as ordinary people. May he save us from the pandemic of Coronavirus that is epidemically ravaging us Amen.
