HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE 3RD WEEK OF EASTER

Intention for the Day: Prayer that persecution may not derail us from proclaiming the faith but urge us on. Amen.

BY: Fr. Cyril Akindele Osadare

HOMILY: Readings: Acts 8:1B-8; John 6:35-40

In life, there are levellers. The hierarchy and status levels are misrepresentation. One has become what he is just because of opportunities and acceptance combined with hard work. That’s why nobody has a monopoly of anything, not even wealth, power or position. He whoever wears the cap, the cap fits the person as long as he or she is ready and make himself or herself worthy of it.

That’s what we have in the readings of today. In the first reading, the people of Jerusalem persecuted Jesus and moved on to his disciples. And the consequences of that is the gain of other persons in the world especially Samaria as we have it in the first reading of today. Even though, Samaria was seen as inferior by Jews and had previously rejected Jesus passing through their town. But the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4 and the first reading of today indicate that whoever receives Jesus would be blessed by him. That’s what Jesus meant by saying that whoever comes to me I shall not turn away and he will not lose anyone of his own.
