THEME: THE LUCKY LEPER

HOMILY: MARK 1:40-45

  1. He knew where to go: when you know the remedy of your sickness it means you are cured. Because if you are sick with headache you go for paracetamol. If u have AIDS you are seemingly hopeless. This manner of sickness of the leper is as serious as Aids and Cancer. He wakes up everyday seeing his hair, nails and skin peeling off. He came to Jesus. Where do you go?

  2. He Knelt down: he recognized how powerful Jesus was. He knelt before him as a servant before his master. When you are desperate you can do anything. Age or title is not what matters now. What matters is who has the power. When you come to Jesus do you recognize him as the one having all the power?

  3. He pleaded: we all are beggars before God as St Teresa said. We depend on him for everything. He promised us rest (Matt 11:28). The leper asked him to consider him for the favor of getting healed. Jesus saw humility and faith and released the word and he was healed. Do you back you faith with humility?

  4. The story spread: this was a remarkable miracle that if it were us we would publish it at the back of our bulletins and air the miracle on TV. But Jesus warned him not to publish the healing but he couldn’t withhold the news from spreading because those who knew him before inquired and he spoke about it. The fame of Jesus spread throughout the town. Let us not blow our own trumpets but let others do it for us!
