YEAR B: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 29TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
HOMILY THEME: FOCUSED LIVES
BY: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare
(Eph 4:1-6/Ps 24/Lk 12:54-59)
Peter nearly got submerged in the sea because he took his gaze off Jesus. Thomas got out of the gathering and missed the first appearance of Jesus. Judas is condemned now because he left at the course of the gracious last supper. Paul was so focused that prison gates could not prevent him from ministering. He could write to motivate the Ephesians and direct their walk with God from prison. He knew there was no time to waste in the preparation for the eternal life. The urgency of evangelization and of preparing people for God was so clear and important that there was no time for any relaxation.
The lack of focus that Jesus condemned in the Gospel is so present in our generation. We are over relaxed. It is as if we have clear evidence that we have enough time to waste before we prepare for eternity. Let us wise up and wake up. Our calling is to be holy and lead others to holiness. What example are we giving to our world and generation?
