HOMILY THEME: WHAT DO YOU CONSIDER YOUR TREASURE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 6:9-23) Friday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time

In the day’s Gospel Jesus admonishes the apostles to make sure they store up treasures in heaven rather than on earth. Things of earth rot and disappear while those of heaven last and save. It is determined by the preferences of the heart. What we consider our treasure is what our hearts will ache.

There is a saying, "Hindi mo madadala ang kayamanan mo sa hukay." Earthly riches remain on earth and have no value in heaven. Since our home is with God in heaven, our preparation should be geared towards heaven. In fact, we should make use of what we have here on earth for treasures in heaven.

We should not compromise spiritual things like hope, love, faith, compassion, forgiveness, charity, respect, justice, peace, etc. for any riches, fame, or power.

As baptized and children of God, we were born of the Spirit. It is by the Spirit who gives and forms us with virtues. It is in the Spirit we live. It is in the Spirit we will enter the Kingdom. True riches is life lived in the Spirit and not in the material riches we fill our lives with.
