YEAR B: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE SIXTH WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: LIVING A GOOD CHRISTIAN LIFE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Jn. 16:20-23) Friday of the Sixth Week of Easter.

In the day’s Gospel Jesus gives an important warning about being his follower. It will not be easy. There will be rejection, grief, weeping, and other challenges. The world will not be cooperative, rather, would even be seductive to turn everyone away from God and embrace the flesh.

Christians will be brought to the point of giving up and just accept the world and abandon God. Jesus knew what Christians will go through. He went through it Himself. He was God and He was not spared. We know the story. Like Jesus, our master, we will not have an easier time. As His followers we will experience the same rebuke, rejection, and humiliation. Jesus had led the way. He had taught us how to accept and face them. Jesus chose the path of humility, love, meekness, sacrifice, forgiveness, etc. Most of all, He chose to offer His life by dying on the cross for the sake of ALL, for sinners and saints!

The same is expected of us. Yes, we die on the cross too if it leads to that. God will give us the grace we need to live the Christian life Jesus wanted for us. We live it day by day, good deed by good deed, wherever we are and whoever is in need. We are Catholics. It means we care for everyone every time everywhere!
