YEAR B: HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: THE DIVINE REQUEST

BY: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

HOMILY:

(Mic 6:1-4, 6-8/Ps 50/Mt 12:38-42)

We are doing a whole lot in the name of religion. But do we actually know God’s definition of religion? It is unfortunate to discover that many are seeking and doing what Jesus called evil and unfaithfulness. We are running after or advertising miracles, prosperity and painless religion to the extent that genuine Christians question whether they are on the right track. The airwaves and Churches are polluted to the extent that it is becoming as if sound doctrine and the way of the cross are anti-faith and unchristian.

Micah helps us to discover what is acceptable to the Lord. He proclaims, “What is good has been explained to you, man; this is what the Lord asks of you: only this, to act justly, to love tenderly and to walk humbly with your God”. Let us end our reflection by looking only at the first instruction, namely, acting justly.

Few questions may help us. Do we deserve the vacations we take as actual resting periods or mere expanded version of our laziness at work place? Are we right to condemn civil society when we are living the exact corrupted life we witness in public figures? Do we give society its due hours of work, to our family the needed respect, and to ourselves the integrity of our nature? Are fair are we in distributing the common good of the family, society, town, community, Church at our disposal?

What image do we give to outsiders about the Church and our families? Finally, do we care for the less privilege or keep discriminating fuelled by our selfishness? Let us seek to live justly, love tenderly and walk humbly and nothing would be denied us. PRAYER POINTS
~Lord, show us the right way to you ~That false ministers will not deceive us from the right path
~For the strength to do God’s will always
