YEAR B: HOMILY FOR MONDAY OF THE FIFTH WEEK OF EASTER

HOMILY THEME: LET HIS SPIRIT GUIDE US

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Jn. 14:21-26) Monday of the Fifth Week of Easter

In the day’s Gospel Jesus reminds the disciples of the need to follow the commandments. During His ministry, He had taught them everything and even showed them miracles that they may believe. As a manifestation of His abiding presence, the Holy Spirit will come to guide and help them. The Holy Spirit will serve as an Advocate to us.

The risen Jesus may have left us when He ascended into heaven but He never abandoned us because He is with us in the Holy Spirit. Specifically, God, in His Spirit talks to us through our conscience. We are made aware of God's presence and will through our consciences. But it is not limited there. God is present in Spirit in our neighbors, life events, Scriptures, sacraments, and places and things which we use in our daily lives. There are always ways in which God communicates to us in Spirit. Listening to the Spirit is listening to God. It results to the fulfillment of His commandments which is the expected action from us. The Holy Spirit is active in that matter. It makes us alive in our faith. We received the Spirit when we were baptized. It was summoned to be active in defending the faith and becoming assertive against evil in the sacrament of Confirmation.

We are thankful for and to the Spirit. It does not fail to remind and teach us. We only need to listen and follow where it will us. The Spirit is our defendant and guide. Let us always invite the Spirit and commit to follow where it will us to be.
