YEAR B: HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 10TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME (2)

YEAR B: HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE TENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: “WHAT GOD LOOKS FOR IN A MAN”(1 KINGS 19:19-21)

BY: Fr. Livinus Igbodekwe

HOMILY:

I. RESPONSIVENESS: Elisha happened to be the last in the list to be anointed but he becomes the first to respond and receive appointment. God is not looking for the first person in the list but the willing soul to follow. Readiness! The last can be the first.
II. HUMILITY: 12 yokes of oxen is a fortune. This shows how rich Elisha was yet he didn’t leave the work for servants. He was doing it himself. Elisha was not a capitalist he was a humble master.
III. DILIGENCE: laziness is no man’s honour nor husbandry any man’s disgrace. God doesn’t call the lazy but the diligent. Amos was a dresser of sycamore and David was a dedicated shepherd boy. Paul was a tentmaker. Peter was a fisherman.
IV. DETACHMENT: God does nothing with an undetached person. Elijah detaches himself from family and possession in order to be dedicated to the call of God. And that was why he inherited the anointed mantle of Elijah that was cast upon him which would later became the mantle of double portion. Detachment begets fidelity and fidelity begets double blessing.

I wish you a blessed Saturday!
