YEAR B: HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE 21ST WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: IS YOUR TALENT A BLESSING OR A CURSE TO YOU?

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 25:14-30) Saturday of the Twenty First Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus tells the Parable of the Talents. It is the story of a master who gave his servants different amounts of talents before he went on a journey. When he came back, he asked them to account for the talents. One just maintained the talents left to him while the others profited. As a result, the talents of one who did not profit any was taken and given to the one who gained a lot.

The message is that the good and faithful servant is the one who bore fruit. Out of the gifts given to us by God, we must generate some produce. The produce were meant to benefit not only us but others as well.

First we must discover our gifts. Our lives came from God. Together with this life are the talents, riches, time, etc. We owe them all to God. Next, we ought to use them. Not using them renders them inutile and devoid of any benefit to is and everyone. It is a great sin to waste God- given gifts.
