YEAR B: HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF THE ELEVENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: DO NOT WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 6:24-34) Saturday of the Eleventh Week in Ordinary Time

In the day’s Gospel Jesus addresses our attitudes on worries. Or I should say, our insecurities. He gave good examples of what worrying does or not do to us. They do not add to life. In fact, they cause a lot of sicknesses that shorten life.

Worries are concerned about tomorrows which may never come. The concerns of the day are already to much that we really burden ourselves by thinking bout what tomorrow may bring. Then Jesus cited the bird and the grasses. They are taken cared of even if they do not toil like human beings. In other words, human beings are much better, more important to God and are capable of addressing causes of worries.

To all our worries and our insecurities, Jesus gives an answer; “Seek first the Kingdom of God and all will be given unto you.” First things first. Possess what is basic. Faith and trust in God eliminates those worries. Remember that God is the author of life. He knows how this life should believed. He provided everything we need to survive and to get to the Kingdom. Clinging to God makes us worry-free!
