YEAR B: HOMILY FOR THE 17TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: THE SUFFICIENT GOD

BY: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

HOMILY:

God is enough for us; with Him, we lack nothing in life. He feeds multitudes with almost nothing. With Elisha, God fed some hundred hands with barely twenty loaves of bread. In the Gospel, five loaves were enough to satisfy (not just feed) a crowd that had about five thousand men. God is our sufficient provider.

We are God’s children and, like the Apostles, we must learn to obey Jesus even in our doubts. We don’t need to be convinced before we trust the Lord. Once God has said it, we have no reason to doubt. We are one people lacking so many things. This notwithstanding, there is no cause for alarm. When we encounter challenges, when there are no more resources, ours is to look up to Jesus, wait on Him and expect a miracle. Our presence must inspire hope in others. Since God never change, doubt, hopelessness and despair should not be part of our vocabulary and mindset. Since God is with us, all shall be well.

PRAYER POINTS
~In appreciation to God for his constant generosity
~That we can inspire hope in those despairing
~For God’s provision in our current lack
