BY: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

HOMILY: SCRIPTURAL TEXTS: 1 Samuel 3:3b -10, 19, RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 40:2 and 4ab.7-Sa.8b-9.10 (R. cf. 8a and 9a), 1Corinthians 6:13c-15a, 17-20, Gospel of St. John 1:35-42

They saw where he was staying,‘ and they stayed with him .

Child of God, our world is dried up today, mother earth is refusing the water of life to soften it . We are lacking God, we are thirsty and we need God.

My dear one, why did the disciples find Jesus and stayed with him for the rest of that day?
*Let us listen to the Gospel(John 1:35-42)*

At that time: John was standing with two of his disciples; and he looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus. Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.” They came and saw where he was staying; and they stayed with him that day, for it was about the tenth hour. One of the two who heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him, and said, “So you are Simon the son of John! You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter).

In the above Gospel reading, Jesus proved Himself to be God of life that each of us must discover, seek, follow and stay with. The truth is that, humanity cannot live, exist and move around without Him. We need God to be complete as his creatures.

It was said that John looked at Jesus as he walked, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.

Child of God, like the disciples of John, we must learn to listen to God everyday in our day to day activities, in smaller things of life, at home, in the school, market places, even in our noisy world here and there. We must be attentive and follow God.

Also the Bible told us that, Jesus turned, and saw them following, and said to them, “What do you seek?” And they said to him, “Rabbi” (which means Teacher), “where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.”

Beloved, may l ask you, in our present day situations and crisis, do we still need somebody to show us Christ ? May l ask again whom do you seek ? Who have you decided to follow this year ?

Like the little innocent Samuel (1 Samuel 3:3b -10, 19) let us say ” SPEAK LORD, FOR YOUR SERVANT IS LISTENING ”

*let us pray:*
May God help us to be conscious all the time, that our bodies are not meant for immorality, but for the Lord alone. (1Corinthians 6:13c-15a, 17-20) And may we know that our bodies are members of Christ, united in the Lord’s one Spirit. May He give us all the necessary Graces we need to shun immorality and sin, which we commit outside our bodies and appreciate our bodies as the temple of the HOLY SPIRIT for the glory of God the Father. Amen

Happy Sunday and Happy new week of staying with Christ.

Always on my knees for you in prayers.

Your Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike, Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco.
