YEAR B: HOMILY FOR THE 3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: THE MIRACLE OF DIVINE ENCOUNTER !

BY: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

HOMILY: SCRIPTURAL TEXTS: Jonah 3: 1-5.10, Psalm 25:4-5ab.6 and 7bc.8-9 (R. 4a), 1Corinthians 7:29-3l, Mark 1:14-20.

Beloved, do you know that the only best experience in someone’s life is the day of personal encounter with Jesus.

What a meeting of transformation, joy, love, total purification and change of old name into new baptism of everlasting life.

A meeting of renewed experiences and welcoming new expectations of good things of God.

May we listen to the Gospel (Mark 1:14-20) :
After John was arrested; Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent, and believe in the Gospel.” And passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw, Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net in the sea; for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him. And going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and John his brother, who were in their boat mending the nets. And immediately he called them; and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and followed him.

The Gospel of the Lord.

The above Gospel calls you and l, to identify and connect ourselves to Jesus, like the disciples.
My dear one, remember that is only Jesus, who can change our lives into sweet wine of love and peace.

” Come follow me” the disciples encountered the Messiah and never remain the same, and you ? their old garments of life was changed into new ones, their business name and life, where changed into a new business name of everlasting increase.

Jesus said to them, “Follow me and I will make you become fishers of men.” And immediately they left their nets and followed him.

Automatically they become fishers of souls, nolonger Fishermen.
may l ask you, with what is happening around our world today, With the words of Jesus “Come follow me” does it, still resounds in your life again ? can you stand and defend your faith in time of difficulties of life ?

Today like the people of Nineveh, (Jonah 3: 1-5.10) may we listen to the new voice of Jonah through our Priests in the Church, and be converted of our sins. Amen.

May Jesus help us to remember always that the form of this world is passing away (1Corinthians 7:29-3l) let us seek God alone in all we do as we wait for his coming in glory. Amen.

Happy Sunday and Happy new week of Divine encounter.

Always on my knees for you in prayers.

Your Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike, Salesian Sisters of St. John Bosco.
