HOMILY FOR THE 4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME [YEAR B]

HOMILY THEME: The Authority of Jesus, the good teacher

BY: Rev. Sr Justine Oluchi Egbedike

FEAST OF ST. JOHN BOSCO : MASTER AND FATHER OF THE YOUTH.

*SCRIPTURAL TEXTS* : Deuteronomy 18:15-20, Psalm 95 : 1-2.6-7abc.7d-9 (R. see 7d.8a) , I Corinthians 7:32-35, Mark 1:21b-28.

Child of God, do you know that the Authority or the Supreme power of Jesus can never be questioned?

Let us believe and stand in the Word of God which tells us that, In the name of Jesus every knee must bow and every tongue must confess that, Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father . God have has proven Himself as the *ALL- KNOWING GOD,* who knows our troubles and sorrows of life, and who only can cure all chronic diseases and can deliver mankind from the pit and the bondage of Satan.

May l ask you my dear one, whether you are still afraid of death, sicknesses, viruses, witches and wizards, evil men and women and uncertainties of this world?

Remember trials and afflictions must surely come your way but know that these form part of a Christian’s life. Always count on the Authority of Jesus which surpasses all. In as much as, you are a child of God, Jesus would always stand by and for you and his presence and banner would be over you in order to destroy and scatter the plans of the enemies.

*May we listen to the Gospel of Mark 1:21b-28) :*

“In the city of Capernaum] on the Sabbath Jesus entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one who had authority, and not as the scribes. And immediately there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him. And they were all amazed so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this?  A new teaching!  With authority he commands even the unclean spirit, and they obey him.” And at once his fame spread everywhere throughout all the surrounding region of Galilee.”

The above reading shows us how immense the Love, God has for us. He never wants evil to befall us. He is a compassionate Father, who wants us to be free from sin and sufferings.

The presence of the master in the Synagogue, was to untie a man possessed by unclean spirit.
This reassures us, that only God has power and authority to teach and speak over demons and principalities of this World. No man born of a woman can interrupt the Authority of Jesus, the Son of David.

Is it not surprising that even the devil knows *Jesus’ identity?*
“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him saying, be silent, and come out of him!” And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him”

What a Mighty God we serve! A good God beyond our understanding. They were all amazed and declared: ” What is this? A new teaching ! With Authority he commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him !

There is nothing Jesus cannot do for us. All we need to do, is to know and follow His new teachings that liberate, comfort and heal.

Let us pray:
With the words of the Psamist ( 68:1-4) that when God arises, all enemies, spirit of errors, and fears will be scattered and be driven away and the wicked will perish at the presence of God forever and ever. Amen

Happy Sunday and Happy new week of Amazement of the wonders of God in your life.

Always on my knees for you in prayers.
