YEAR B: HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE 18TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: DO NOT BE AFRAID

BY:Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 14:22-36 or Mt. 15:1-2, 10-14)

Tuesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time

In today’s Gospel Jesus reveals Himself more to His apostles. He walks on the water and controlled nature. This made the apostles exclaimed that He is indeed the Son of God! His words? “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid,” allayed the fears of the apostles and gave them courage, confidence, and peace. While many are capable of saying those words to us, no one can top the Lord.

Doctors can comfort us with assuring words when we are sick. Parent’ words are jewels to us in times of challenges in life. Priests provide inspiration and hope against the onslaught of the evil one. But only the Lord can give us true peace because we believe He is the Master of all creation.

Today, it seems that the world had become more religious. Resort had always been riches, power, and fame if and when the Holy Spirit or the Lord Jesus and even God our Father in heaven seem to be silent and not acting the way we expected them to be. However, in the end, rest is still with the Lord.

He gave an assurance in today’s Gospel. But we must not forget that the assurance lingers up to today. God is still God. Peter failed that test. When he began sinking after He was invited by Jesus to walk on the water, he called out to the Lord. The Lord Jesus saved him from drowning. It will be the same for everyone. Jesus loves us so much and he will never abandon or forsake us. So the next time we face troubles, temptations, despairs, etc., never forget that we have our Lord near and always ready to help and protect.
