HOMILY THEME: WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mt. 19:23-30) Tuesday of the Twentieth Week in Ordinary Time, Feast of Piux X.

In today’s Gospel Jesus told His disciples that it would be difficult for the rich to enter the Kingdom. He showed it by saying that it will be easier for the camel to enter the needle’s eye. It painted a picture of a nearly impossible access to the Kingdom. But Jesus assured them that with God, nothing is impossible.

Clearly, Jesus was teaching His apostles never to separate from God. No matter how rich, powerful, famous, and intelligent one maybe, he should always be humble and recognize that he is still limited and helpless apart from God. In a way, Jesus was telling them that even the humanly impossible camel entering the needle’s will be possible with God.

That is called faith! Faith can move mountains, empty a river, or uproot a tree. It is a response to God’s invitation. When grace and faith meet, miracles happen and the impossible becomes possible.

This truth actually makes salvation in a way easier and manageable. Riches are not available to everyone. In a world beset by greed, materialism, commercialism, pride, and selfishness, the poor abounds and are deprived. Jesus shattered the view that riches are blessings. Not necessarily. The blessing is not how much or many you have but how you acquired and used them. Gifts have corresponding tasks. They are to be used in accordance with God’s will. When we cooperate with God, nothing is impossible. When God is with us, we have everything.
