YEAR B: HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: MY SHEEP LISTEN TO MY VOICE AND MY COMMANDS

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Jn.10:22-30) Tuesday of the Fourth Week of Easter

In the day’s Gospel Jesus describes His relationship to us as like that of the Good Shepherd to His sheep. The sheep recognizes and follows his voice. He defends them and would not let anyone take the sheep from him. Those who do not have faith in Him are like those sheep who do not listen to His voice and His commands.

The teaching of Jesus is very basic and easy to understand. Even if one is not aware of the intimate relationship between a Shepherd and a sheep, one can still understand that the Father would not let any one of us go astray and be damned. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, was sent to make sure of that. He saved all when He died on the cross. And He continues to be our guide and strength in this challenging world. Have faith in Jesus and you can never go wrong. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

There is a contest entitled “The Voice” which has expert singers as judges. Contestants will Singalong song while the backs of the judges are turned against them. The judges will just rely on the voice of the contestants to choose who they will coach and eventually participate in vying for the winner. The singer judges’ familiarity with what constitutes a good voice will be their main asset to evaluate and train more their chosen wards. Human voice is very powerful. Before a trained ear, a good voice cannot escape. God’s voice is a lot more powerful. With a faithful and loving Christian, the voice of God will be clear and followed.
