YEAR B: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE TWELFTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: MY ASSOCIATIONS?

BY: Rev Fr Joseph Nyarko Asare

HOMILY:

(2Kgs 22:8-13, 23:1-3/Ps 119:33-37, 40/Mt 7:15-20)

How fortunate one is when surrounded by a team of positive minded people seeking to do what is objectively right. Josiah, who became king at the 8 years old, got around him Godfearing priests, secretary and attendance. With a humble and listening attitude, they helped him to succeed in life.

Getting a good intention is not enough. The people we permit in our lives can do or undo us. Nowadays, like Jesus warned, the names “man of God” and prophet has become so cheap that people associate themselves with it without meaning what they symbolise. If you are not careful, men of God can make your life more miserable.

It is sad but we need to move beyond titles and “examine” personalities before we open up to them for any support of any kind. We need pray for guidance, wisdom and courage to know who to trust. A common test could be, “Is my lot improved in accordance with God’s will after meeting that person?”

PRAYER POINTS
~For grace for all ministers of the Gospel
~That we will not be led astray by the people we trust
~For discernment and Divine guidance
