YEAR B: HOMILY FOR WEDNESDAY OF THE FOURTH WEEK OF EASTER YEAR B

HOMILY THEME: PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY:

(Mk. 16:15-20) Wednesday of the Fourth Week of Easter, Feast of St Mark the Evangelist

In the day’s Gospel Jesus commanded the eleven to go and proclaim the Good News to every creature. Those who believe will be saved and those who do not will be condemned. The command maybe simple but the task is not. But by this simple command, Jesus showed the importance of believing in the Gospel which He had proclaimed.

Salvation happens because the Good News show the way to God. It follows that condemnation happens because one did not heed the Good News.

Jesus knows human nature. Jesus knows us very well. He knows how life should be lived so that it will lead to the Kingdom. Jesus taught the He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through Him. His words are the words we need towards eternal life.

Some people abuse the Word of God through bible cutting. Bible cutting is turning the pages of the bible at random and believing that the page turned is one’s message for the day. That is a dangerous way to use the bible. While at times it maybe appropriate, in most cases, it maybe unproductive and irrelevant. Worse, it might be destructive. Search the bible prudently and respectfully. There are many passages which might be responsive to your concerns. Select what is apt and have faith in the Word of God.
