YEAR B: HOMILY/REFLECTION FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF CHRIST KING OF THE UNIVERSE (7)

YEAR B: HOMILY/REFLECTION FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE

HOMILY THEME: A STRANGE KING, A STRANGE KINGDOM, BUT A BRAVE TYPE TO BE PRAISED

BY: Fr. Christian Eze

HOMILY:

First reading – Dan. 7:13-14
Second reading – Rev. 1:5-8
Gospel Jn. 18:33-37

The kingship of Jesus is not of this world. In the eyes of the world, it appears absurd. Imagine this type of a king:-

The king in heaven who chose to become a slave on earth-

The one who is truly a great king yet chose to be mocked by His subjects-

The king who chose to wear the crown meant for a lunatic-

The creator of death but who chose to be struck by death-

The man who chose to become a lamb for sacrifice He created man but chose to be born of man-

He was a rich man who honored a slave’s invitation-

He knows the depth of a man’s heart yet was betrayed by man-

He was killed by the one to whose rescue he had come-

He is the most expensive yet was sold as cheap as 30k

Was previously eating on the high table and chose to eat on the ground in an earthen port-

Was the master but was flogged by his own servants-

Was the farmer who allowed the okro plant to over-grow him-

Was the fountain of life himself but chose to drink vinegar when he was thirsty-

Was the Savior of all but sought assistance

A heavenly king but yielded to the assistance of a mortal man-

A consoler who left with tears in his eyes-

A wonderful food, the bread that gives life but was poured away-

A most precious blood that was poured away-

A Spirit that was hit and pierced by the sword of a mortal man

One who had many expensive wears but stood without any in a public-

One who was spotless, sinless and righteous yet died the sinners’ death-

One who was the army commander but gave his life in the battle field-

One who was the judge but condemned by the convicted-

One who created both the dead and the living but chose to die

Would chose to be called son of Joseph the carpenter when he is the Son of God the Almighty-

Would choose to die in place of the criminal-

Would choose to be the judge who receives insults from those he has acquitted-

Would choose to be large-hearted one who is derided by those he has cancelled all their debts.

No other king could do any of the above willingly. It was only Jesus my Lord and my King who chose these freely for my sake. He is my hero. He is my King. I am proud to tell the whole world that he is coming back to reverse all of the above, and be acclaimed KING by all, including those who do not believe it. Acclaim Him the King today. Don’t wait for the time when you would have no option. Jesus is The KING.
