YEAR C: HOMILY FOR PENTECOST SUNDAY

HOMILY THEME: PENTECOST FEAST

BY: Fr Emmanuel Nwokeji

HOMILY: The Pentecost is called the feast of weeks because according God’s injunction in Leviticus 23:15-16, the Israelites were to count 7weeks from the Passover feast (Pesach) before celebrating this feast. That is after 49th day, the 50th day. Thus 50th is rendered Pentecost.

From the Jewish observation of month, Pentecost coincided with the revelation of Law to Moses and it was called feat of Matan Torah ( the giving of the Law).

Our Christian Pentecost occurred on the Jewish Pentecost. The Christian Pentecost considers the the spirit of Christ as new dimension for the interpretation of law. The greatest law is the love of God and neighbor.

May this new law that brings unity in language bring us together in serving God so that the earth will be a better place.

May everything Godly in you be renewed and invigorated.

Happy Pentecost Sunday.

Fr Emmanuel Nwokeji is in union of prayers with you and your family.
