YEAR C: HOMILY FOR THE 13TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: THE CALL

BY: Fr. Emmanuel

HOMILY:  It is good to remind ourselves the following questions: who called us? Why He called us? & how do we respond to the call? Considering time and environmental factors are necessary for us to understand different our differences in responding to the Caller. Above and beyond, what matters is the outcome of our response which should be positive.

Elisha was called to take over from Elijah, he accepted the call and sought for opportunity to block every source distractions by going home slaughter his oxen. He did so among other reasons to redirect his attention to another treasure, from being farmer to prophet of God.

The first part of the today’s Gospel (Luke 9:51-62) calls for tolerance of the others who have different mindset, understanding, belief, tradition etc. Even when you refused to be given one thing or other from your people, do not revile them in return.

In the second part of the Gospel, our decision to follow Jesus should be backward never and forward ever because no one step into the river twice.

As we propose to follow Jesus always without procrastination, may His abiding presence, protection and favors remained always with us.

Happy Sunday.
