HOMILY THEME: THE SAVIOUR MANIFEST’S HIS PRESENCE

HOMILY: Upon the arrival of the new born king Jesus, it was pertinent for him to be made know to the whole world.

So on this day the church celebrates the self manifestation of the new born king and saviour of mankind.

Today’s Gospel gives us a brief narrative of this manifestation of Jesus Christ to the three wise men also known as the Magi (Matt. 2, 1-12). They came all the way from the East, that is; from the pagan territory. ( so the coming of Christ unifies humanity, not minding religious or cultural status. All are to welcome and celebrate the Messiah who has come to visit and redeem us).

From the part of the world where God and the Messiah were neither known nor expected to be preached.

They Presented the infant king gifts of Gold, Frankincense, and Myrrh.

From the three gifts they brought to Bethlehem, Christian tradition pictures the Wise Men as three and even given them the exotic names of Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar. Perhaps they travelled from Persia or South Arabia, though all that St. Matthew says is that they came “from the East”.

As the saviour manifests his arrival to our world, let us go to receive him, this time not with Gold or frankincense or Myrrh, but with our faith and trust in him.

Full of confidence that he has truly come that we may have life and have it in its fulness. Have a fruitful week
