YEAR C: HOMILY FOR THURSDAY OF THE CHRISTMAS WEEKDAY
HOMILY THEME: NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon
HOMILY: (Jn. 1:29-34) January 3, 2019, Thursday Before Epiphany
In today’s Gospel John gives further testimony to Jesus Christ, the Messiah. He again clarifies that his baptism is a baptism of repentance. It is the one who will come who will baptize in the Holy Spirit, the baptism of salvation. John shared what was told to him. He saw Jesus as the one because the Spirit came upon Him. Jesus is the one who will bring us back to the fold of God.
John the evangelist gave this message in the First Reading today. We are children of God. As God’s children, we were given God’s purity and holiness. When we embrace sin, we lose that holiness and purity. It is our task to remain the light for Jesus is out light.
Jesus’ death on the cross merited us salvation. It is ritually and actually obtained through the sacrament of baptism. The sacrament gives us new life in Christ. We are, in a way, born again.
If you notice, when you sin, your person, and your soul, is agitated, confused, and anxious. It is not an ordinary feeling and situation. Our person is restless until it rests in God. We belong to Him. He is our creator. It is in him that we will find peace.
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice to embrace our humanity so we can embrace divinity. Jesus christified us with His death on the cross.
