YEAR II: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 6TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
HOMILY THEME: BE PRAGMATIC, BACK YOUR FAITH WITH GOOD WORKS
BY: Rev. Fr. Jacob Aondover ATSU
HOMILY: READINGS: JAMES 2:14-24.26, PSALM 112, MARK 8:34-9:1
✓•The world will surely be a better place if the many professed believers in God acted kindly towards one another.
✓•The world is a fertile ground for all men to practice GOODNESS, hence puting into practice their faith in God.
✓•There are many hungry folks around us, the sick are everywhere needing our attention and care, the oppressed and marginalized cry for our consolation everyday, etc. We may simply lend a helping hand and save a soul.
✓•When we worship God inside our Churches, temples, synagogues and prayer houses; we may remember to take to the streets, slums, homes, business centers, schools, et al. In these places, would our faith be best expressed in works.
✓•Sometimes practicing our faith may entail going through perilous situations. At such instances, we may kindly remember that Christ never promised us a rosy Christianity; he was clear about the ‘Cross factor’ that accompanies discipleship.
✓•That is why in Mark 8:34-9:1, he exhorts us to follow him by denying even what we know and have; by losing our priceless possession, our lives and by allowing God to influence everything we do.
✓•He tasks us to humbly submit ourselves to God come what may; that so, we shall be securing our places in eternity.
✓•With God in the picture, our knowledge is useful and progressively oriented; without him however, it is useless and destructive.
✓•We may do well to seek his touch in all we do else we may be the architects of our fall; we may be building towers only preparatory to our destruction.
