33RD WEEK THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A HOMILY

TUESDAY HOMILY- HOLY WEEK YEAR B

33RD WEEK THURSDAY IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A HOMILY

THEME: The message of peace!

By: Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor

I Macc.2:15-29; Luke 19:41-44

Why do human beings love war so much? Weapons of mass destruction continue to be produced by many countries. Nuclear bombs, atomic bombs, rockets, machine guns… Wait a minute! Who’s the enemy? What’s this monstrous giant we’re all trying to kill? We have allowed evil to infest our very beings, all in the name of acrimony and hostility. At about this time, a few years ago, a man was brutalised and set on fire here in Nigeria, because he allegedly stole food. Is he worse than those in public office who constantly steal public funds and get away with it?

Friends, when Jesus caught sight of Jerusalem in today’s gospel reading, he wept over it because they missed the opportunity of peace when God offered it. This is the same Jesus who was slain and with his blood bought us for God; Hausas as well as Igbos, Yorubas as well as Esans and Binis… Let us learn something from the recent coups in Africa. About them, someone said, “coups are usually violent and bloody, and one cannot say they are good. But it turned out that Zimbabwe’s coup was more peaceful than elections in Nigeria”. May we learn to come together and reject whatever works against our peaceful coexistence, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
