HOMILY FOR MONDAY 26TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR A

BY: Fr. Justin Nzekwe

Human being at creation was exalted by God to a very high position as the crown of creation. He is the only creature created in the image of God. God created human being and breathed life into him. The air we breathe is the same air God breathed into Adam at creation. However the whole of creation respects us, because God made us administrators of all creation. And because of our exalted position in the midst of all other creations, God always sends his angels to protect us. They protect us from childhood as we can see in the gospel reading of today. Jesus said, “See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father who is in heaven.” Our guardian angels also protect us until death like in the case of Moses.

When we do the will of God, we are surrounded by good angels, but when we turn away from God, we are surrounded by bad angels. As written in the book of Exodus, God reminds us through his prophet, saying: ‘”Behold, I send an angel before you to guard you on the way and to bring you into the place I have prepared. Have respect for his presence, listen to his voice, and do not rebel against him; for he would not forgive your transgression, for my name is in him.”

If the angels are always with us, therefore we have no secret. They hear our discussions and they get disappointed if our words are sinful, and happy if we always talk about what gives glory to God. They monitor our actions, including what we do when no one is watching us, and they feel bad and even turn their back from us, if our actions do not give glory to God. They protect us from harms, and fight our invisible battles. Many of us have offended our guardian angel because of the type of life we are living which does not give glory to God. Therefore, we pray in this holy mass for the grace to live a holy life, so that we may always be protected by our guardian angels.
