HOMILY FOR MONDAY TWENTY-SIXTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME – YEAR I

By: Rev. Fr. Kevin Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese)

HOMILY THEME: Guardian Angels!

Zech.8:1-8; Mt 18:1-5, 10

Many of us grew up with the idea of Guardian Angels. Yes! But not as many of us truly accept this idea. We think we do, but we really don’t. Come to think of it; if really we could see one giant looking handsome being with wings following us all over the place how many of us would continue living the way we currently do? Would we keep masturbating if we truly realised our guardian angel was right by our side? Would we fornicate or commit adultery? Would we steal? Would we keep telling lies? Would we be comfortable in our current state of sin?

Friends, sometimes, our level of awareness of guardian angels is pretty low. Not to talk of our awareness of God himself. Angels have been given authority to guide and guard us. But as we lose our innocence we become less aware of the presence of our guardian angels. We must learn to rediscover our ‘inner child’, for only the one who truly becomes like a little child can be great in God’s kingdom. And even when we lose our way, we must not be discouraged, for our guardian angels are continually in the presence of God in heaven interceding for us. Why not ask their guidance as we struggle to get back on your feet?

Prayer
Angel of God my guardian dear, to whom God’s love commits me here, ever this day to be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide me, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your day ahead.
