I joyously welcome you all to the 5th Sunday of ordinary time, yr B.

In the first reading of today, we have Job reflecting on the mystery and misery of human life and existence. For him, life is full of challenges, frustrations, fleeting joy and parading pains. This of course is not inclusive to believers alone but to unbelievers alike.

Seeking lasting joy in this world is highly impossible, we should only be encouraged and let the sorrows of this world to increase the quest for our longing for heavenly joy.

The second reading of today is very instructive. St Paul teaches something very essential. He beacons on us to examine our attitude towards our work. For him, he sees his apostolic calling as a duty and a responsiblity on him to do so. He doesn’t do this for financial again or for sordid money, neither is he doing it for self seeking motives but simply to please his Maker.

I wish we evaluate these points and ask our self some salient questions.

1. How do I see my work? (Perception)

2. What drives me in my work? ( Motivation and Intention)

3. How committed are am I with my work? ( Deposition)

It is a proven fact that even believers have a very poor, uncharitable attitude towards their duties and responsibilities, some, their disposition towards their duty is just for the renumeration attached to it, their is no self motivated sacrifice which is attached for the benefit of others.

The life and words of Apostle Paul today, calls us for a sober reflection.

The Gospel itself has alot to offer us today.

From the Gospel, the following can be deduced to help us as we struggle to make heaven our eternal home.

1. Jesus cure many sickness and illness, devil was equally cast away, I want us to note the term many, the Bible didn’t say Jesus healed all. This means that not all trials and problems of the world will be taken away or disappear, some will remain even after our novena. This is because they have a place in the master plan for our salvation. This connects us to the first reading, whenever we pray, let us have faith and be hopeful for the will of God. For it isn’t every time that the Red Sea will part ways and not everytime that Walls of Jericho will fall.

2. Jesus always had His time to be with God, unlike most of us, we have no time for personal relationship with God. His disciples came to Him and said that everyone has been looking for Him, this would have been enough motivation for Christ not have His time to commune with His Father, but because He wasn’t after public fame and eulogy or even money but instead His cares, was doing His Father’s will

Dear brothers and sisters, let us always be motivated by the will of God and not mere admiration, commendations and worldly praises by people.

May your days within this new week be filled with blissfulness and blessings from God.
