CYCLE II: HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF THE 9TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME

HOMILY THEME: THE POWER OF GOD

BY: Fr. Benny Tuazon

HOMILY: (Mk.12:35-37) Friday of the Ninth Week in Ordinary Time, June 5, 2020

In today’s Gospel Jesus reminds the people of God’s power through the anointed one, the Christ. God does not abandon and would see to it that our enemies are defeated. The phrase “seat at the right hand” is to be with God who has power and command. Jesus tells the crowd about the Messiah. Jesus makes claim to that messiahship.

If we believe in God, we believe in His power. But God entrusts this power. He did it for the Lord Jesus when He was sent to save mankind. While “seating at the right hand” refers to a place, it essentially means that one is with God. Thus, wherever we are, if we are one with God, we are empowered by Him.

God’s enemies have no power over Him. The battle between God and evil is actually not a battle. If it happens, we allow evil to prevail or side with it. Thus, while we are dependent on God for His graces, we contribute in allowing evil to prevail. God cannot violate freedom. When we reject His love and allow in evil, God is not defeated. It is us who lost.

If we are to experience God’s assurance of victory, we ought to cooperate with Him.
