HOMILY FOR SATURDAY MAY21 2022

Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Afghanistan, and Somalia are on the list of the most intolerant countries. A study conducted by a human rights group, National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) showed that Pakistani children are taught to hate religious minorities and their “school textbooks are full of information that incites hatred and intolerance…”[1] It is sad to see how some parents in Nigeria train their children to hate members of other ethnic groups and religions. Religious leaders also contribute to shaping and forming the minds of their followers or congregation by the kind of sermon they preach. Hate speech and crimes are on the increase in Nigeria because many parents, teachers, and leaders have failed in their responsibility to preach, teach and give good examples to those entrusted to their care. Jesus told His disciples to expect animosity, intolerance, and persecution. He said, “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me before you”(John 15:18). People who are committed to their faith, stand, speak and live for justice, peace, love, and truth will always be hated and targeted by those who stand for wickedness and evil. How do you respond to people who hate and persecute you?
