DOMINICAN PRIEST STABBED TO DEATH WHILE HEARING CONFESSIONS

Fr. Joseph Tran Ngoc Thanh, O.P. (born on 10 August 1981 in Saigon) was sent to the mission in Dak Mot, Kontum, highland of Vietnam after his ordination of priest in August 2018. He served this parish and loyally shepherded the flock of God in his care. On 29 January 2022, he was hacked to death while he was hearing the confession in the church before last Saturday evening Eucharist. This is the most grievous death of the priest after the war.

His funeral will be held on Monday 31 January 2022 at St. Martin Chapel, Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai, at 09:00 local time (15:00 Rome time). His body will be laid to rest among other frairs in the Cemetery of the Province, Bien Hoa. We commend our brother to the mercy of the Lord and to your prayers.

Eternal rest, grant unto his soul, O Lord, and let Your perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
