FRIDAY HOMILY, BEFORE EPIPHANY – YEAR B

HOMILY FOR TUESDAY OF THE SECOND WEEK OF EASTER, LITURGICAL CALENDAR  - YEAR B

FRIDAY HOMILY, BEFORE EPIPHANY – YEAR B

THEME: Beware of envy and hatred!

BY:  Rev Fr Oselumhense Anetor (Uromi Diocese).

1Jn.3:11-21; Ps.100: 1-2.3.4; Jn.1:43-51

Since the time of Cain, the world has seen and heard about too many murders. But no one is born evil. In his message for the fiftieth World Day of Peace, Pope Francis talked about ‘the politics of non-violence.’ This involves rooting out of our hearts, all traces of envy, jealousy and hatred, which are the seeds of violence. If only we can pray fervently for the grace to be able to forgive and show love. Jesus was tortured like no other, flogged like no other, and crucified like no other, yet he found a way to love and forgive his murderers.

Friends, I realise how difficult this teaching is. I don’t like it too much myself. How can we learn to forgive those who murdered men, women and children in Benue State recently? What about murderers in the South East? How is it even possible to love that brother or sister that’s so jealous of my success he/she has done practically everything to frustrate my life? However, Christianity gives us no room to be evil. It means caring for the other person at whatever cost. Like Philip, who found Nathaniel and brought him to Jesus, may we too learn to look out for others and depend on the power of Jesus, who promised us greater things, Amen.

Good morning dear. God bless your weekend ahead. Happy New Year!
