HOMILY FOR 3RD SUNDAY IN ADVENT  – YEAR B

REFLECTION/HOMILY FOR THE 4TH SUNDAY OF ADVENT, YEAR B

HOMILY FOR 3RD SUNDAY IN ADVENT  – YEAR B

THEME: “Gaudete” not pains!

BY: Fr. Justus

(a) The third Sunday of Advent is called the “Gaudete” Sunday, derived from the Latin word which means “rejoice” as beautifully expressed in Isaiah 61:10, ” I exult for joy in Yahweh, my soul rejoices in my God, for he has clothed me in garments of salvation…” The traditional pink colour of the day describes this joy, that the saviour is close to us.

(b) The time is a season of joy and rejoicing and to share the joy with others especially with the poor and the needy. As Jesus Christ was sent, “to proclaim liberty to captives, release to those in prison, to proclaim a year of favour from Yahweh and comfort all who mourn” so we are to make people rejoice and not to cause people pains.

(c) Gaudete! not pains to the people by cheating so as to make undue profits in the name of the season, hiking prices to exploit people, greedy demands in the name of “meeting up” for the Christmas, stealing, fraudulency to have more for the Christmas. It not time to jealous and envy people’s progress. Rejoice for people’s success. Be a cause of Joy to people in the season. Gaudete, “Always be joyful”. May the cause Joy never depart from us.
