HOMILY FOR FRIDAY OF 4TH WEEK OF EASTER.

THEME: WAY, TRUTH & LIFE.

BY: FR. GERALD M. MUSA.

We live in a confusing world, full of troubles, and a world where there is an exponential growth in the number of self-acclaimed pastors, prophets, and occultic shrines disguised as prayer houses. Jesus reiterates, “I am the way truth and life” (John 14:6). He assertively uses the personal pronoun, Iam” to define His identity and mission.

He deliberately uses the definite article The’ to show that no other way, truth, and life compares to that which he offers to the world. St. Augustine considers Jesus to be vera via vitæ (the true way of life). He remains the supreme, unique, and ultimate guide to God, the giver of abundant and eternal life and the sure way to God and salvation. Jesus is also the true truth’ who came to testify to the truth (John 18:37).

More still, Jesus is the real-life who offers new life to those who accept Him (ohn 3:3). It is this new life that the Prophet Ezekiel describes as a “New heart and a new spirit” (Ezekiel 36:26, 27). Today, people in the world are desperately searching for the right way, for the ultimate truth, and for improved life quality. Therefore, the three important questions are: How can we move forward? How can we uphold truth and integrity? How can we improve the quality of our lives?
