THEME: There must be no competition among you!

HOMILY FOR MONDAY OCTOBER 31 2022.

Phil.2:1-4; Ps.129; Luke 14:12-14

Look at what unhealthy rivalry and insane competition has done to God’s Church. A man of God simply cannot rejoice with another when he does well, because of envy and jealousy. We even go as far as consulting oracles so that we can out do one another’s miracles. This is sad. St Paul appeals to us through his letter to the Philippians. He says we must think about our lives in Christ, we must reflect on the persuasive power of love, we must consider the Spirit we have in common, and be united in our convictions and love.

The good we do must not be because we expect any reward here and now. When last did we organise a dinner party for the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind; those who cannot repay us? We rather prefer to invite celebrities to our harvests and bazaars. We prefer to deify public thieves in our churches because they’ll give us some of their ‘stolen’ money. Jesus says we must have a rethink. On the last day, we won’t be asked how many mansions we built in God’s name, or how many Cathedrals we erected. We would be asked how many times we placed the interest of others before ours.

Good morning dear. God bless your week ahead. Happy last day of the month of October Devotions.
