HOMILY FOR SATURDAY OF 16TH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME.

THEME: FRIENDS OF JESUS.

True friends walk together through life’s journey, supporting and encouraging each other along the way. In the Gospel of John, we encounter three siblings and close friends of fesus: Martha, Mary, and Lazarus. Each of them had distinct qualities that made their relationship wih Jesus unique. Martha was known for her practical and hospitable nature, always ready to serve others,
including Jesus.

Mary, on the other hand, expressed her worship n a more extravagant manner. Mary’s worship was characterized by the language of giving, emphasizing the significance of true worship occurring within one’s heart and spirit, being genuine, sincere, humble, and pure. In summary, Martha’s worship language was service, while Mary’s was characterized by heartfelt devotion and attentive listening to Jesus’ teachings. In the Gospel of Luke, we see her sitting at the Lord’s feet, listening and learrning from Him, dişplaying abeautiful and deep level of devotion.

Jesus had a strong bond with this farmily and demonstrated his closeness to them by visiting their house just six days hefore the Passover, and also shorty before his passion and death, during which he was honoured with a feast. One remarkable event involving Lazarus was when Jesus raised him from the dead after he had been deceased for four days and his body had begun to decay. Lazarus became a testament to the power of life. Each of these individuals exemplified a distinct and meaningful connection with Jesus. How deepis our friendship with Jesus?
